NEW DELHI — As world leaders arrive in India for the 18th BRICS Summit, Delhi’s luxury hotels have been transformed into tightly secured diplomatic zones, while chefs prepare something equally important — a culinary introduction to India.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to stay at Taj Palace, Russian President Vladimir Putin at ITC Maurya, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is expected at The Oberoi. Other delegations are being accommodated across several leading hotels, including The Leela Palace, The Lalit, The Ashok and The Imperial.

But the welcome goes far beyond luxury rooms. Hotels have prepared specially designed menus featuring India's regional flavours, with galouti kebabs, kachori, bhakarwadi, tandoori breads and millet-based dishes among the culinary highlights. The Leela has also prepared edible lotus creations using Indian ingredients, while The Lalit is combining Indian regional food with selected flavours inspired by BRICS nations.

At the Taj Mahal Hotel, guests are being introduced to a “tradition to table” experience, including recipes inspired by chefs’ family traditions and handcrafted Indian gifts. Cultural performances, traditional welcome rituals and Indian décor are also part of the experience.

For India, the summit is therefore more than a diplomatic gathering. From the security cordons outside the hotels to the flavours being served inside, Delhi is presenting the BRICS world with a carefully prepared portrait of modern India.
