Durga Puja is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across India, with beautifully decorated pandals, artistic idols of Goddess Durga, traditional rituals, cultural performances and festive gatherings attracting people of all ages.

Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal remain at the heart of the celebrations, while cities such as Mumbai and other Indian urban centres are presenting creative pandal designs that combine religious traditions with modern art.

The festival's spirit also reaches far beyond India's borders. Bengali communities in England, Scotland, Germany and the United States organise Durga Puja gatherings to preserve their cultural heritage and bring families together. London’s Sharad Utsav, scheduled for October 16–18, 2026, features traditional worship, music, cultural programmes and Bengali food. Community celebrations are also planned in other British cities, including Manchester, Birmingham and Paisley in Scotland.

In Germany and America, Bengali associations and Indian cultural groups similarly help keep the festival alive through worship, community meals and cultural events, although individual programmes and dates vary by location.

For Indians living overseas, Durga Puja offers a cherished connection to home, family traditions and childhood memories. The sound of dhak drums, the fragrance of incense, the sharing of bhog and the sight of Maa Durga create a festive atmosphere thousands of miles away from Bengal.

Durga Puja is therefore more than a religious celebration. It is a symbol of cultural identity, community unity and the enduring bond between Indians living at home and abroad.
